OnePlus has officially entered the foldable smartphone market. After dozens of teases, the former flagship killer brand has put its cards on the table with the launch of OnePlus Open. It weighs 239 grams and is one of the thinnest foldable released this year.
OnePlus might be new to the foldable market but its parent company Oppo, has already pushed two foldables in the Chinese market. The only difference is, this time it’s an international release and the OnePlus Open has some interesting specs. Let’s dig in.
Unhinged Design
OnePlus claims the new Titanium alloy, carbon fiber-based hinge is more durable than its foldable peers. In fact, OnePlus has tested and claims that its hinge can survive a million folding cycles. That’s almost five times what the Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 advertise.
As mentioned it is one of the slimmest foldables at just 0.59cm (when opened) and 1.17cm (when closed). In case you’re wondering, the record holder is Honor Magic V2 at just 0.47mm (when opened). Sadly, the Magic V2 is not available in international markets.
Did I mention it retains the classic OnePlus slider? Yes, it’s got the signature alert slider, unlike a specific brand that removed it from their latest lineup of smartphones. Also, the power button doubles as a fingerprint sensor, just like the other foldables.
On the back, we have a giant circle that houses the triple camera setup with a Hasselblad logo.
Display
On the front, we’ve got a 6.31-inch AMOLED 2K resolution (431ppi). The inside display is a 7.82-inch AMOLED panel with a 2K resolution (426ppi). Both displays are 120Hz LTPO displays with a peak brightness of 2800 nits.
The outer display is protected by a Ceramic Guard and the inner display is shielded by an Ultra Thin Glass. OnePlus has not mentioned much about their glass’s durability but they’re

Camera
Hasselblad’s name reached a foldable with the OnePlus Open. The $1700 foldable sports a triple camera setup on the rear with a 48 MP, f/1.7 primary camera, a 64 MP, f/2.6 telephoto snapper, and a 48 MP, f/2.2 ultrawide.
The outer display sports a fixed focus 32MP f2.4 camera which has EIS (electronic image stabilization). The inner display has a 20MP f2.2 snapper, also with EIS.
The OnePlus Open is one of the very few Android smartphones that can shoot videos in Dolby Vision. Until now, the iPhones (
iPhone 12 series & later) were the only major smartphones that were able to shoot videos in Dolby Vision HDR.
