It’s only been a few weeks since Samsung unveiled their flagship Samsung Galaxy S21 lineup to the entire world in the Samsung Unpacked Event. Even though the initial reaction to the whole Galaxy S21 lineup was somewhat lukewarm, Samsung loyalists were quick to pre-order their units, excited to get their hands on the latest and greatest that Samsung has to offer. But as it turns out, not everything is going as smoothly for said loyalists.
A number of users are reporting excessive overheating issues on their brand new Galaxy S21 smartphones even when they’re not used intensively. Samsung Galaxy S21 users are reporting heat build up when they are using the cameras, video calling or even doing something as simple and light as watching a YouTube video. Concerned users have taken to the forums to discuss their issues, only to find out that the overheating incidents are more widespread than initially thought.
Samsung has had a bad track record when it comes to overheating smartphones. We’re sure you still remember the whole exploding Galaxy Note 7 fiasco and the global recalls that followed. Even in more recent times, Samsung’s in-house Exynos 990 CPU was notorious for
causing overheating and throttling issues on the Galaxy S20 lineup. The Snapdragon 865 variants of the Samsung Galaxy S20 sold in North America, South Korea and some other regions were majorly devoid of all such issues.
An interesting thing in the case of the Galaxy S21 series is that users of both the Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 variants are reporting these overheating issues. It’s also seen across the board ranging from the base Galaxy S21 to the Galaxy S21 Plus to even the flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra. What’s more, a number of users are experiencing Samsung Galaxy S21 Overheating while charging issues. This could be due to the use of unbranded and incompatible Galaxy S21 fast chargers, since Samsung ceased to include the official power brick in the box from this year.
What’s especially concerning is the occurrence of excessive overheating from what is seemingly regular, non-power intensive usage. Overheating after long hours of gaming is expected and not worrisome but overheating while scrolling your Instagram feed can be a major usability issue.
Let’s hope this Galaxy S21 Overheating chapter is just a minor launch time issue which will be fixed soon with software updates. After all, the Samsung Galaxy S21 is an excellent smartphone and one that lays the roadmap ahead for the 2021 Android Flagship.
