I have admired Apple for more than a decade now. I got smitten with the company way back in 2004 when I got my first iPod. It was the first device that I ever owned which had such an attention to detail and just seemed perfect. As the years went by, Apple had their ups and downs with the launch of highly successful products like the iPhone and the iPad but also the death of their CEO and Visionary, Steve Jobs.
Apple has pulled off ridiculous moves in the past. Removing the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 was unacceptable back then but we’ve all gotten used to it now. Removing all the ports from their Macbook Pro except for a USB C Port and forcing your users to buy dongles? Terrible. But with the new lineup of iPhones, Apple might have pushed it a bit too far.
If you’ve ever unboxed an iPhone 7 or any launched after that, you can see a lightning to 3.5mm dongle. It can be used to use your regular headphones with the iPhone. It’s clumsy, I agree but at least they bothered to give a solution. But get any of the new Apple iPhones and you won’t see a dongle. It sells for 9$, definitely costs Apple even lesser and yet they fail to include it for a product that costs at least 750$. But this is a minor complaint.
The major complaint is the lack of a fast charger in the box. It should be criminal to put out such an expensive phone in the market and then make the customers pay extra to get the fast chargers when companies like Samsung and OnePlus have been including fast chargers with their smartphones for years now. With the premium that Apple demands, they really need to put their greed in check and think about the customer here and there.
Now, why would Apple do that, you’d think? Didn’t they just cross a market cap of 1 Trillion Dollars? Well, not including these components in the box might be saving Apple around 10-15$ per unit. It seems non sensical but when you factor in the millions and millions of iPhones they sell every year, it’s a smart financial move.
Apple has made huge claims about the iPhone XS being the most advanced iPhone ever, the most powerful ever and the most revolutionary ever. Well it’s the most expensive Apple has ever gone with iPhones ever too. And certainly the cheapest Apple has ever gone with their laurels.
