I was cleaning up my drawers yesterday, when I ran into an old companion. This companion and I used to be inseparable and I enjoyed it immensely. But it was a short lived companionship, because I got a newer one after a few months. I am talking, of course, about my old iPhone 5. I found it last night after at least an year, tried to power it on but it didn’t have a charge(duh!).
I plugged it in and after a few minutes the screen came to life. While I got all nostalgic about how I loved this phone, I couldn’t help but notice how tiny it was compared to the iPhone 7 Plus. The screen on the Plus is bigger than structure of the iPhone 5. But it was oddly satisfying, holding a phone comfortably with one hand, without having to adjust your hand every few moments.
I had a sudden urge to put my SIM into this phone and use it as my daily driver, at least for a week. But the iPhone 5 is too old now, I needed something newer. Fortunately, a friend agreed to lend his iPhone SE to me for a week. For the uninitiated, the iPhone SE was announced last year. It carries the exact same design of the iPhone 5/5S, with the innards and cameras of the iPhone 6S. It was a beast in terms of battery life and performance back when I tested it last year and I expect not a lot would have changed about that.
So, right after I publish this article, I am going to pop my main sim out of my 7 Plus and put it into the iPhone SE. After a week, I am going to put my One Week Later report here which would be a record of my experience and whether or not I’m going to continue using this tiny phone after this challenge.
