Qualcomm just unveiled a new lineup of Snapdragon G-series chipsets for handheld gaming consoles. The Qualcomm Snapdragon G-series lineup includes three chips: Snapdragon G1 Gen 1, Snapdragon G2 Gen 1, and Snapdragon G3x Gen 2. These new chipsets have been announced to meet varying performance and handle specific handheld gaming needs. Now let’s talk about all these chips. Keep reading!
Snapdragon G-series includes Snapdragon G1, Snap G2 Gen 1, and Snapdragon G3x Gen 2
Snapdragon G1
The Snapdragon G1 Gen 1 is the base tier of the new lineup that caters to fanless handheld devices that can stream PC or Console games over the cloud or locally. The Snapdragon G1 Gen 1 incorporates an Adreno 11 GPU and an octa-core Kryo CPU which allows gaming at 1080p and 60 FPS. It promises a battery life of up to 10 hours.
Snapdragon G2 Gen 1
The Snapdragon G2 Gen 1 is the mid-tier chipset from the Snapdragon G-series lineup that takes cloud gaming to the next level. It supports
5G, Wi-Fi 6, and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity using the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 platform. In addition, the G2 Gen 1 chipset features an octa-core Kryo CPU, a relatively powerful Adreno A21 GPU, and a Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System. The Snapdragon G2 Gen 1 platform supports gaming at 1080p and 144 FPS.
Snapdragon G3x Gen 2
Finally, we have the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, the flagship chipset from the lineup. It is an upgrade over the G3x Gen 1 in the Razer Edge from last year. The G3x Gen 2 comes with the same CPU as the other two chipsets from the lineup but features an Adreno A32 GPU. That said, we haven’t heard about the exact specs for the SoC components from Qualcomm as of now. However, the chip giant claims that the flagship chip delivers twice the GPU performance as compared to the G3x Gen 1. Whereas, the CPU performance is said to be 30% faster than its predecessor.
The G3x Gen 2 also supports gaming at 1080p and 144 FPS, and game super-resolution. In addition, XR glass tethering, low-latency premium Bluetooth audio,
Wi-Fi 7, and 5G sub-6 GHz and mmWave bands are a few other platform features of the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset. Furthermore, it supports dual camera setups as well as stereo haptics.
The company has further informed that it is working with brands like AyaNeo and Thundercomm to launch handheld gaming devices that will be powered by Snapdragon G-series chipsets. The handheld cloud gaming devices market is getting warmed up for a fierce battle this year. It would be interesting to see when these devices hit the market.
