After months of rumors and anticipation, Samsung finally unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 at the July Unpacked 2023 event. We also witnessed the launch of the Galaxy Watch 6 series and Galaxy Tab S9 series, at the same event. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5: Display, Processor, and Software
Talking of Galaxy Z Fold 5, it comes with a 7.6-inch main screen with a resolution of 2,176 x 1,812 pixels and a variable refresh rate of 1Hz-120Hz same as
the Galaxy Fold 4 from last year. The cover screen packs a 6.2-inch screen with an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz and a screen resolution of 2,316 x 904 pixels.
As far as Galaxy Z Flip 5 is concerned, it launched with a 3.4-inch cover screen aka Flex Window, bigger than the Z Flip 4’s 1.9-inch cover display. The inner display is unchanged and still packs a 6.7-inch 1080p AMOLED 2X display that has a variable refresh rate of 120Hz. Whereas the cover display comes with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a screen resolution of 720p.
For performance, Samsung has incorporated the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor in both smartphones. The processor is the same one as that from Galaxy S23 i.e. Optimized for Galaxy. So far, our experience with this chipset has been phenomenal. On the software front, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 run on
Android 13 and OneUI 5.1 out-of-the-box.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5: Camera
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 houses a triple-rear camera setup which was earlier confirmed by leaked official marketing material. The rear camera setup features a wide-angle camera of 50MP, an ultra-wide camera of 12MP, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The inner screen houses a 4MP front snapper, whereas a 10MP selfie shooter is also available on the outside, the same as the Z Fold 4. The only difference is ISP (Image Singal Processing) optimization brought in by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
As far as cameras are concerned, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 houses a dual-rear camera setup with a 12 MP main camera and another 12 MP camera for ultra-wide shots. For the front snapper, there’s a 10MP selfie camera on the inside.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5: Battery and Charging
As far as battery and charging are concerned, the Samsung Z Fold 5 packs a 4400mAh battery and supports 25 Watts fast charging same as
Fold 4. Whereas, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will pack a 3700 mAh battery and supports 25 Watts fast charging support just like last year’s Samsung Z Flip 4. Moreover, both devices are compatible with wireless charging and come with support for 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, as well as UWBNFC.
In short, there are no upgrades on the battery and charging department.
Samsung Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5: Price, Availability, and Colors
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available for pre-order in select markets from the day of launch i.e. July 26, with general availability from August 11th. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is available in four color options: Mint, Graphite, Cream, and Lavender. Whereas, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is available in three color options, namely, Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream.
Talking of price, the base model of Galaxy Z Flip 5 with 8GB RAM and 256 GB is priced at $999. However, with pre-order offers, you can get 512 GB storage at the same price of 256 GB. Whereas, the Z Fold 5 starts at $1799 for a 256 GB version. With preorders, you can get the 512 GB variant for the price of 256 GB. And, the maxed-out model with 1 TB will set you back $2159.99 (with a $150 savings when pre-ordered).
Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 receive minimal upgrades
It is worth mentioning that the major upgrades include changes made to the display and hinge of both smartphones. Samsung says that the use of the gapless flex hinge now allows the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 to fold completely flat. The main screen of both devices includes a shock dispersion layer and protection of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for extreme durability. That’s not all, the hinge of both devices is protected by the Armor Aluminum frame. Moreover, the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 still come with an IPX8 water resistance rating. This ensures that both flagship smartphones won’t get damaged if it is submerged under 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.
