Google recently updated the existing flat robot head Android logo with its 3D version. Whereas, the previous ‘android’ wordmark with lowercase ‘a’ has been updated with an uppercase ‘A’. Besides, the letters ‘n’ and ‘r’ are completely rounded as in 2008 and 2014, but the robot head now has some depth. The updated logo and wordmark were spotted in recent print ads by Google that focus on switching from iOS to Android.
It is worth knowing that the upgraded logo was seen first at the CES 2023 where it was placed beside the lowercase ‘android’ wordmark. At that time, the company created many versions of the logo. For example, the Bugdroid logo was seen with a blended tire design while the company talked about Android Auto. That’s not all, in the recent Google I/O 2023 event, the company flaunted the new 3D Android logo with different materials and designs such as disco ball, etc. when it mentioned the platform as the “Most expressive OS.”
The company told 9to5Google, and we quote “We’re showcasing some elements of our new brand identity on various surfaces, including our CES booth from earlier this year and other campaign materials like digital & banner ads. We’ll have more to share in the coming months.“
Further, it was mentioned that the changes will be added to the final stable version of the Android 14 which is likely to be released in August. The new logo and wordmark will be seen on all Android devices running on stable Android 14. At present, the boot screen says “Powered by Android” which shows the old flat robot head with an ‘android’ wordmark with a lowercase ‘a’. It has also been reported that Android’s new branding will first debut in TV ads before it is seen in Android 14.
