iPhone 15 “Ultra” rumored to launch in 2024

Yes, you read it right! Apple, the Cupertino-based tech giant is rumored to launch a more premium version than the Pro Max. Early leaks have been tipping the iPhone 15 Ultra as an iPhone Pro Max replacement, but Mark Gurman points out that it can be a different high-end lineup as we have seen with the Apple Watch Ultra.

Last year we saw Apple made a clear distinction between the base models and the Pro models. Even the major design changes were in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max and the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus looked very similar to iPhone 13 variants. According to the rumours this distinction is most likely to continue  with iPhone 15 Ultra as well and, pick up a few features that iPhone 15 Pro might not have.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple might potentially replace the “Pro Max” version of the iPhone 15 with a new “Ultra” model. Apple has used Ultra in the last year’s Apple Watch and new M1 Ultra chipsets- which refers to the highest-end model in both categories. iPhone 15 Ultra rumors suggest that Apple could turn towards a new titanium alloyed body, a feature that was first tipped for the iPhone 14 Pro models but didn’t pan out. Switching to that material would make for a more durable phone, something that you’d expect from a device with an Ultra in its name.

There have been some speculations about iPhone 15 which come from reliable  sources that iPhone 15 will ship with USB-C ports. As the law passed in European Union mandating USB-C on smartphones by December 28, 2024, Apple is most likely to ditch the lightning cable and you don’t have to carry multiple cables. Another feature that we can see in the iPhone 15 Ultra is the periscope zoom lens. Multiple reliable leakers have mentioned that Apple is working on a periscope lens for the “iPhone 15 Pro Max”.

Apple is more likely to include that in iPhone 15 as they did with the iPad 10th Gen. Earlier Mark also reported that iPhone 15 models will get a Dynamic Island display. This move will encourage developers to make apps that adapt to the morphing camera cutout/display feature, therefore further adding to its capabilities. Even before iPhone 14’s launch, there were predictions regarding the use of different processors for its various phones. iPhone Ultra is likely to get a new chipset when it launches by going with logic it would be A17 bionic chip, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will most probably get A16 as they did with iPhone 14.

While it is too early to say anything about iPhone 15 lineup with confidence, it will be interesting to see how many rumors will become true.
